Sharing Experience and Culture with the Next Generation at UTSOE University
One meaningful stops on Laura Elena Rodríguez Garcidueñas’ book tour in Mexico was her visit to the Universidad Tecnológica del Suroeste de Guanajuato (UTSOE) in Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato.
As part of the university’s Culture and Sports Week, Laura was invited to give the talk “Experiencia como autora: creación de libros infantiles para contar la cultura”, sharing with students her journey as an author and illustrator and the process behind creating children’s books inspired by Mexico’s cultural heritage.
For Laura, opportunities to speak with university students are especially valuable. Sharing experiences beyond the classroom can help young people discover different creative and professional paths, while encouraging them to explore how their own interests, knowledge, and cultural background can become part of what they create and share with others.
During the talk, Laura spoke about the challenges and rewards of becoming an author, the research behind Juego de Pelota: Descubre sus secretos con La Catrina Bohemia, and the importance of finding creative ways to bring cultural heritage closer to younger generations.
The visit also had a deeply personal meaning. Laura was welcomed and introduced by Professor Luis Enrique Olivera, who had taught her several subjects during her own academic years. Returning years later as a published author and artist, and being able to share her experience with a new generation of students, made the encounter particularly special.
